Welcome to dog eared magazine, a journal of book arts. dog eared was established in 2001 as a special quarterly small press magazine all about bookbinding and artists’ books.

We have published a total of 17 issues, and are currently working on Issue Eighteen. Yes, the whole “quarterly” plan has changed. We are not currently taking new subscribers due to our erratic publishing schedule, but we ARE going to continue to publish and if you’re a current subscriber, we will be fulfilling your subscription.

To make this happen and to adapt to the changing times, we are changing the way we do things. We hope you’ll join us as a founding citizen of dog eared town.

We want to bring creativity and inspirational instruction to anyone who wants to make art books, whether you are an artist who loves the idea of creating art in a book form, a teacher trying to get students interested in SOMETHING, or an avid journaler who needs to make his or her own perfect journal.

dog eared magazine covers techniques of traditional and contemporary bookbinding while keeping a careful eye on the content and purpose of an artist's book. Our focus very concrete—we'll play with books of all kinds, but won't stray too far from the subject of BOOKS.
